In January, we would have not guessed what was in store for us this year. For many people, they have said that they want 2020 to be over, but for us it has been a year of blessings. We were blessed to have Brighton join our family in April, we were able to have Matthew home with us for six months, I was able to continue working from home during the quarantine, and life was able to slow down for a little while.
Matthew has had many moments over the years of people asking, “Have you ever considered being a pastor?” Usually when this question would come about he would say, “No, (insert some kind of excuse).” Well, the question had come so often he finally said yes. As of September 16th, 2020, (We found out September 19th) Matthew was accepted into the Master of Divinity Program at Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne. Yep, he’s going to be a pastor, God willing, and I’m going to be a pastor’s wife. We will be moving to Fort Wayne either in June or August of 2020 depending upon his entry level competency exams, all of which he is and has been studying for.
This decision did not come without a lot of discussion, thought, and prayer. We have a house here, Matthew has a good job, I have a full studio of awesome music students, we have a homeschool community that is out of this world, and most importantly a church that we love. We will be leaving this all behind to move to a new place, have Matthew go to school full time, homeschool, and also try to find very creative ways to make enough money to support a family of five. We know it will not be easy, it will have many challenges along the way, but at the same time, we know that there are churches that need pastors and lots of people that need to know Jesus.
As of right now, we don’t know what we will need come next year, but for now we ask for prayers that Matthew can pass his exams and that we can enjoy another summer in South Dakota before we embark on this adventure that will be more than four years in the making.
In true Baker fashion, you squeezed every ounce of life possible into a less than ideal year. A perfect baby, a growing the studio, a new homeschool group, a huge life decision. Just another year... We love you all and you remain in our prayers!
